School systems throughout the valley are achieving great results and education is being well supported. To date, approximately two-thirds of our schools have received full accreditation by the State Department of Education. Each city or county is responsible for its different programs, and individual information is available through links on this page. There are also more than a dozen outstanding private and parochial schools in the area.

For higher education, there are at least 19 Roanoke area Colleges and Universities ranging from accredited Health and Technical schools to 2-year public community colleges and 4-year private schools. Many of these colleges partner in job training and graduate studies through the Roanoke Higher Education Center in downtown Roanoke.
